The Affenpinscher is often called  "monkey dogs" or mustache devils and have often described as looking like Ewoks from "Star Wars"  The Affenpinscher stands only about a foot tall but have a lot to offer in a small package with their confidence and antics.


Affenpinscher is one of the most ancient of the toy dogs. The breed originated in Central Europe sometime during the 17th century. The breed wads kept around stables and farms where the help control the rats and other rodents populations.


Affenpinscher are a very loyal, affectionate breed but can also be described as willful and domineering. Owners also sometimes describe them as like a little human who is befriended not trained.  The breed tends to get along with other dogs but because of the breeds heritage not recommended to be kept with rodent pets such hamsters and ferrets.

Health                                                                                                                                                                                  The median lifespan is 11.4 years slightly lower than other breeds of their size.  In hot weather can develop repertory problems and are prone to have hip dysplasia in their senior years.  Some problems with collapsed trachea and cataracts  have been reported.                                                                                                                                                                                                            

* The breed is often considered hypoallergenic because of the wiry hair.                                                            

*The breed is not recommended for homes with young children because they dislike being chased or       hugged.                                                                                                                                                                     

 * The breed is known for hardly any shedding of hair.  Should be brushed occasionally.                               

* The breed can be difficult to house break and can require firm training .
