Basset Hound Dog

The Bassett is a short-legged hound dog.  The muzzle is deep and heave with length greater than width.  Their brown eyes are soft with a sad look.  The skin hangs loose and falls in folds.  They have velvety long ears.  The Bassett is sweet and gentle and a good family dog but can be stubborn.  They need daily walks.  Due to keen noses they tend to roam when they pick up a scent.

Height:  males 12-15 inches, females 11-14 inches

Weight: males 50-65 pounds , females 45-60 pounds

Health problems:  Must not be overfed because excess weight places too great load on legs and spine.  Prone to bloating and need small meals instead of one large meal.
